Germans rebuke regulation

German citizens and legislators have spoken: there will be no gaming regulations in Deutschland.

German gamers brought a petition to their Parliament opposing a ban on violent games. Advocates collected 73,000 signatures — well over the 50,000 required — to bring the matter to Parliament for discussion. Ultimately, video game advocates persuaded legislators that public education on existing game ratings, and not government regulation, is the best way to influence people's behavior.

We applaud the people of Germany for their grassroots campaign to preserve free speech and the German Parliament for its fair-minded decision. The lesson for American gamers: your voice counts. And while we can’t petition the U.S. Supreme Court the way Germans can petition the Parliament, we can change public opinion.
